Everquest II has been around since 2004 and follows the great success of Everquest 1, which still to this day is going strong. But this review is about Eq2 so I will keep focused on that.
The review process I decided to go with is as follows: I will score a game on 5 categories:
- Fun Factor
- Content
- Gameplay
- Audio / Video
- Replay Value
Fun factor I rate Everquest 2 a 6 out of 10. The reason I rated this somewhat low is because as good as I find Everquest, there isn't a whole lot that stands out as "fun" for me. It's not bad, and with grouping and raiding I would rate the fun factor higher, but playing solo I feel that 6 is a fair score.
Content Everquest 2 has a TON of content. I would rate this high, however with a basic bronze account a lot of the content is limited and therefore I give this a rating of 7 out of 10. If I was rating the Silver Membership option I would give it a 8.5 and a 9.5 for Gold Membership. This game has a lot to do in it, and will keep a player busy and discovering new items and land for a long time.
Gameplay I consider gameplay in Everquest to be quite good. This is an easy game to get into and the interface is quite intuitive. I give this a rating of 8 out of 10.
Audio / Visual This game has pretty impressive graphics and sound considering how long it has been around. If I were to compare to more recent games I would say it's a little dated looking, however still really nice. I give a 8 out of 10 for this category. The sound is also quite good. The music is engaging and sound effects are of high quality.
Replay Value This is a game that you can spend a lot of time playing. I would say that the replay value is high due to the character options and different questline paths you can choose along the way. I give this a 9 out of 10 for replayability.
This game is a game that you can end up sinking a lot of time into. It's quite a large mmorpg and as such there are a ot of things you can do to advance your character, which takes time to master.
My overall rating for this game given all the above factors is 7.6/10
I recommend this game to anyone that likes mmo's. However, I do highly recommend upgrading to the Silver Membership. For the one time cost of $10 I think that is very well worth the investment.
